The private World of the Spanish America settlers
Abstract
Wills, inventories and auctions of goods and letters are very adequate sources for the study of the private world or ordinary people, in this case the Spaniards that migrated settled and mixed with other groups and therefore forming the colonial society of a new America. These private documents ended up in the hands of the colonial administration because of the publicly assumed responsibility by the Spanish Crown to execute them therefore assuring the protection of the interests of those involved. In this way, documents linked to the death of the settlers become an essential source to study their private life and emphasize their contribution in the human, social, economic and cultural construction of the Spanish America.
