An international team has identified the genes that make these plants resistant to the pathogen that attacks crops belonging to the cabbage family all over the world

From Brussels, China or Milan. "Surnames" aside, cabbages are grown nowadays all over the world. Like them, many other plants from the Brassicaceae family such as cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage and even mustard -yes, strange as it may seem and though their tastes are very different, a Brussels sprout and a mustard seed belong to the same family- have a common enemy: white rust, or at least one kind of white rust. Specifically, cabbages are threatened by a disease caused by a pathogen called Albugo candida, which acts exactly like a fungus, though it is not actually a fungus. That is to say, it spreads under the right conditions of humidity and temperature and eats up the nutrients of the plants it attacks.

La investigadora Verónica Loewe acaba de recibir el premio internacional “IUFRO Outstanding Doctoral Research Award 2019” a su tesis doctoral, realizada como integrante del grupo de investigación "Evaluación y Restauración de Sistemas Agrícolas y Forestales" Ersaf RNM-360 de la Universidad de Córdoba.

Veinticuatro científicas de diferentes disciplinas contarán su experiencia como investigadoras en un recorrido por centros educativos de la provincia entre los días 4 y 15 de febrero 

La Unidad de Cultura Científica y de la Innovación organiza un ciclo de charlas con motivo del ‘11F Día Internacional de la Mujer y la Niña en la Ciencia’. Entre los días 4 y 15 de febrero, 24 investigadoras de la Universidad de Córdoba recorrerán 21 colegios e institutos cordobeses tratando de transmitir los valores de esta efeméride que se celebra a nivel internacional: visibilizar el papel de la mujer en la ciencia y establecer referentes que despierten vocaciones científicas en las niñas.
