History of the School

Updated 22/02/2013

The Sagrado Corazón” Teacher Training School is affiliated to the University of Cordoba (Royal Decree 1625 of 2 May).

The school was founded in Priego de Córdoba in 1964 to provide academic instruction in Primary Education and its various specialisations.

Today, we offer Bachelor’s Degrees in Early Childhood Education and Primary Education, as well as a Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Speech-Language and Hearing, Foreign Language, Physical Education and Musical Education. The diplomas will be phased out as the new degree programmes come on line.

In 1975, the “Sagrado Corazón” Teacher Training School was relocated in Cordoba, first in the “San Francisco de Sales” Salesian School and later in Amador de los Ríos Street. The school finally moved to the Santo Ángel Building in the 2006/2007 academic year. It is located near the north ring road at the foot of the Sierra of Cordoba at 21 Brillante Avenue. The closest bus stops are just 2 minutes from the school (bus lines 10 and 11).

Students wishing to attend the school must fulfil the same academic requirements for admission to the state colleges. In accordance with current legislation and under the agreement signed with the University of Cordoba, the studies at “Sagrado Corazon” Teacher Training School have the same effects as those pursued in the corresponding state colleges.

Students at the “Sagrado Corazón” School  are considered students of the University of Cordoba, except for purposes of representation and participation in the governing and representative bodies of this university.

The ownership of the school is held by the “Osio de Córdoba” Foundation, a religious association with an ecclesiastical, apostolic, charitable and educational mission.

Since its founding, our school, which is of Catholic ideology, has sought the comprehensive training of educational professionals by providing:

  • Solid scientific and pedagogic training of academic excellence. The school prepares committed and enthusiastic professionals to ensure a well-rounded education for children.
  • The opportunity for personal development. From a holistic conception of education and bearing in mind the ultimate goal of individual development, the “Sagrado Corazón” Teacher Training School is dedicated to developing the full potential of its students, including their transcendental development, and training them in accordance with the Christian concept of life to provide an authentic education inspired in the Gospel.
  • Teaching tailored to Europe. Aware of the importance of providing a quality education, the “Sagrado Corazón” Teacher Training School has been in the process of adapting its academic offering to the European Higher Education Area since the 2006/2007 academic year.
  • Social commitment. The dissemination of knowledge and commitment to social progress are two of the core missions of higher education and fully consistent with the Christian understanding of life. The “Sagrado Corazón” Teacher Training School provides an education in accordance with the values of the Gospel and Catholic social doctrine, which are reflected in our commitment to the most disadvantaged sectors of society.
