Biography

F

ull Professor of English Literature. He holds a PhD in English Studies (University of Córdoba, 2007), and a PhD in Spanish Language and Literature (University Complutense of Madrid, 2019). He has completed research stays at institutions such as King's College London, the University of Montpellier, and the University of Clermont Auvergne. As a visiting scholar he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses at other universities, such as University College of London, Orleans, and Catania.

A firm believer in the importance of continued professional and academic development, he has completed six online courses on English Literature - five at the University of Oxford and another at the University of Cambridge - between the period 2018 - 2021.

Katherine Philips: Poetical Works is a bilingual edition of the complete works of ‘The Matchless Orinda’. This edition opens with a 20-page study —by way of introduction— of the author, her background and her poetry. Next, the volume presents 113 poems in bilingual English-Spanish format, with nearly a hundred clarifying notes over 550 pages.



Una nueva poesía en la literatura inglesa: Dryden y Pope. Sevilla: Alfar, 2013.

This book studies the concepts of literary career, self-representation and the professionalisation of Dryden and Pope as writers, dramatists, literary critics and translators. The book also provides a general literary background ranging from the early 17th century to the first decades of the 18th century.



Fugitive Papers. Orinda's Literary Career. Berlin: Peter Lang, 2023.

This book studies the life and work of Anglo-Welsh poet Katherine Philips (1632-1664), framing them in their historical and literary context. It posits that 'the Matchless Orinda' embodies the literary shift from manuscript to printed literature, and shows how a woman poet,following in the footsteps of successful male counterparts, such as Abraham Cowley and John Dryden, was able to achieve fame in the male-dominated literary world of that time.
