Prof. Rafael Luque (Ph.D 2005 from Universidad de Cordoba , Spain ) has a significant experience on biomass and waste valorisation practises to materials, fuels and chemicals over the past 10 years after spending a 3-year postdoctoral placement in the Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence at the University of York . He has also extensive experience in the past 10 years in the areas of (nano)materials science, heterogeneous catalysis, biofuels and green chemical methods. From 2008, he is Senior Lecturer and Ramon y Cajal Fellow at UCO. His major contributions include the preparation and development of a new class of mesoporous polysaccharide-derived carbonaceous materials and the development of alternative and low impact technologies for the preparation of low loaded supported nanoparticles on porous materials for catalytic purposes and waste valorisation. He has published over 120 research articles, filed 3 patent applications and has edited 4 books as well as numerous contributions to book chapters. He has recently been awarded the Marie Curie Prize from Instituto Andaluz de Quimica Fina in Spain (2011) and the Green Talents award from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Germany (2011). He has also been invited to deliver keynote and invited lectures in many Universities and Conferences worlwide including the World Alternative Energy Symposium in Bangkok ( Thailand ), the PIRA Conference for the Pulp and Paper industry in Barcelona and the Mexican Institute of Petroleum (IMP) in Mexico City . Dr. Luque is also member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the prestigious journals Chemical Society Reviews (impact factor 26.6, RSC) and Current Organic Synthesis (impact factor 3.9, Bentham Publishers).
