Rafael Pimentel Leiva

Associate Professor

University of Córdoba
Andalusian Institute for Earth System Research

Biography

Civil engineers by training, master in Environmental Hydraulics: Basin Integrated management and PhD in Biogeochemical fluxes dynamics and its applications, Rafael Pimentel has developed his career in the field of the hydrology. His main research lines have been related to the study of the snow dynamics combining in situ and remote sensing information with physically based hydrological modelling in Mediterranean areas. After his international experience in the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, he broadened his research to global hydrological modelling, being one of the researchers involved in the setting up of the World-Wide HYPE. He has participated in many national and international projects mainly related to snow hydrology, climate services and remote sensing and data assimilation for improving hydrological forecasts.
