Olga Blanco Carrión

Olga Blanco Carrión is an associate professor at the Department of English and German of the University of Córdoba, where she obtained her PhD with the dissertation “Mental perception and cognition from a frame-semantic and construction grammar perspective”. She joined the Department in 2003. She currently teaches Semantics and Pragmatics I, Figurative language, and Multimodal Discourse Analysis in the BA on English Studies, and part of the course Research in Metaphor and Metonymy and The language of the literary text in the MA on Advanced English Studies (Cognitive linguistics and literature) and Bilingual Education. She was the Coordinator of the MA in English for Professional Qualification of the University of Córdoba (2011-2012) until she became its Head (2012-2014). She has presented her research at numerous international conferences and published on cognitive semantics, especially frame semantics, conceptual metaphor and conceptual metonymy.  Some of this research has been published in John Benjamins, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge Scholars and Anthropos. She has been invited to teach at the postgraduate level at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (México), Universitat Jaume I (Spain), and Universidade de Lisboa (Portugal). She has been a visiting researcher at the University of Washington (Seattle, USA), the University of California-Berkeley (Berkeley, USA), the University of Antwerp (Belgium), the National University of Singapore, and the University of Lisboa. She is a member of the Spanish Cognitive Linguistics Association (AELCO/SCOLA), and was the Vice-president of the Organising Committee and a member of the Scientific Committee of its 11th biannual conference which took place at the University of Córdoba in October, 2018 (https://www.uco.es/aelco2018/en/welcome)
