Pilar Guerrero Medina

Pilar Guerrero Medina is senior lecturer at the University of Córdoba, where she currently teaches courses on English Grammar and Linguistics. She has mainly conducted her research within a functional-cognitive framework, focusing on the relationship between lexical semantics and grammar, on the one hand, and grammar and discourse, on the other. P.C. Hengeveld supervised her Ph.D. entitled Transitivity as a prototype category in Functional Grammar: a comparative study in English, German and Spanish, which was awarded by the University of Córdoba in 1997. Pilar Guerrero Medina has been visiting scholar at the Universities of Amsterdam, Nottingham, Munich and Hildesheim. She has published essays on a range of topics, including aspectuality, the interaction between verbal and constructional semantics, compounding, and morphosyntactic alternations in English. While her earlier publications are framed mainly within the Functional Grammar theory of Simon C. Dik, her later work also incorporates insights from the Goldbergian version of Construction Grammar, Systemic Functional Linguistics and Functional Discourse Grammar.
