CEC- Special Session on Search-based and Machine Learning Methods in Software Engineering

Special Session at (CEC'2019) Wellington, New Zealand, 10-13 June 2019

Aims and Scope

This session aims to bring together both theoretical developments and applications of Computational Intelligence to software engineering (SE), i.e. management, design, the development, operation, maintenance, and testing of software. All bio-inspired computational paradigms and machine learning techniques are welcome, such as Genetic and Evolutionary Computation, including Multi-Objective Approaches, Fuzzy Logic, Intelligent Agent Systems, Neural Networks, Cellular Automata, Artificial Immune Systems, Swarm Intelligence, and others, including machine learning techniques.

This special session aims to provide a forum for the presentation of the latest data, results, and future research directions on Evolutionary Methods and Machine Learning in Software Engineering. The special session invites submissions in any of the following areas:

  • Search-based Software Engineering
  • Requirements engineering (e.g., requirements prioritization, requirements selection)
  • Automated design and development of software
  • Genetic improvement of software
  • Software design (e.g., software configuration)
  • Software development (e.g., code optimization)
  • Software testing (e.g., test case generation, test case optimization, model-based testing)
  • Software maintenance and self-repair
  • Software effort estimation and fault prediction
  • Software reliability, testing, and security with data-mining or meta-heuristic techniques
  • Project management, planning, and scheduling
  • Software product lines
  • Studies, applications, and tools to extract information from software repositories
  • Dealing with data problems in software repositories (noise, imbalance, outliers, etc.) when applying ML or meta-heuristics
  • Process mining
  • Mining mobile application repositories (AppStore and Google Play)
  • Tools based on evolutionary or ML methods in SE
  • Real world applications of the above
  • Empirical evaluations

Important Dates

  • Submission Due: January 7th, 2019
  • Notification Due: March 7th, 2019
  • Final Version Due: March 31st, 2019
  • Registration: March 31st, 2019

Note: all deadlines are 11:59 pm US Pacific time.

Submission procedure, deadlines, and paper format are the same than 2019 IEEE-Congress on Evolutionary Computation main conference. In particular, we recall that papers must be submitted through the IEEE CEC 2019 online submission system selecting the special session under the list of research topics in the submission system.
