The Engineering Production Systems Teaching Unit is part of the Department of Animal Production, University of Córdoba (Spain). The Unit is composed by a group of teachers, researchers and administrative staff dedicated to the training of undergraduate and postgraduate students, in the application of engineering principles to:

  • solving problems associated with production, problems relating to the production and transformation of sustainable agro-forestry-livestock systems
  • the improvement of the Agri-Food insdustry competitiveness

The academic staff is adscribed to the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry Engineering, therefore most of the teaching activity is kept within the Engineering Agriculture Degree, where the basic principles of feeding and nutrition, breeding and livestock production systems and animal products are intensively taught. The teaching is addressed by a eco-systemic approach which particular focus on Information management systems and on production process control.

The Unit also conducts teaching and research supervisión to students enrolled in several Masters and PhD programmes:

  • Master: “ Projects and Management in Agro-Food Processing Plants“. The Master has been designed to educate and train students -in a multidisciplinar and international environment- in the design and management of agri-food plants and technological parks. The MsC provides professionals with the needed skills to drive forward processes of improvement and innovation in the food chain.
  • Other MSc Programmes
    • Agriculture Engineering
    • Architecture and engineering planning and design
    • Global climate change, natural resources and sustainability
    • Veterinary medicine, animal health and animal breeding
  • PhD programmes
    • Agri-Food-Forestry Engineering and Rural Development

The Unit is well known and recognised for its long tradition of dedication and individual attention to students in the a shared educational Project aimed to provide students with skills and abilities in the field of Agricultural Engineering in general, and in particular, in livestock production systems.

The educational strategy used in the Unit is is briefly summarised below:

  • Teaching shared by a team (belonging to the Unit or invited), under the coordination of a teacher / a responsable
  • Enabling students contact with livestock farms trough individual field trips using a questionnary to collect information, which has been previously explained and discussed in the class room.
  • Providing training and education for web based lifelong self-learning .
  • To provide student with intellectual, organisational, presentation and interpersonal skills (criticism, analysis, synthesis, problem-solving, writing and oral presentation to different audiences, flexibility, adaptability and the ability to work with or motivate others, group and discussion in seminars and supervisions, etc)
  • Motivating student for learning in foreign languages
  • Motivation and advice for participation in international students mobility and intership programmes
  • Offering a specific ENTREPRENEURSHIP TRAINING WORKSHOP to students enabling participants become more familiar with behavioural competencies of successful entrepreneurs in the agri-food sector.

To reach its educational goals the Unit has an extensive network of public and private institutions, in Andalusia, Spain, Europe, USA, Asia and Latin America.
