WHAT IS THE FEED INFORMATION SERVICE (SIA)?

SIA is one of the University of Cordoba Centralized Services, which participates, within the INIA´s ANIMAL FEEDING THEMATIC NETWORK, in the spreading of the information on animal feeding.

Its main mission is to integrate the data obtained in different laboratories on bromatologic composition, nutritive value and use recommendations of ANIMAL FEEDS used in Spain.

In addition, SIA collaborates with organisms participating in Animal Feeding Thematic Network in decision making on questions of common interest (denominations, codification, methodologies, etc).

WHAT KIND OF INFORMATION DOES IT FACILITATE?

Essentially, chemical composition (Weende, Van Soest, amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, antinutritive factors, etc) and nutritive value data (energy, ingestion, etc).

In addition, SIA has an advisory service of legislative summaries in the field of animal feeding and it is developing new services, like a database of nutritive value prediction equations.

SIA information includes raw materials and compounded feeds, as well as grazed species and other fibrous feeds usually consumed by the extensive cattle.

WHERE DOES THIS INFORMATION COME FROM?

SIA information has diverse origins:

  • Associated laboratories, part of research centers (Universities, CSIC, INIA, etc), official control organisms (agro-alimentary laboratories, etc) or agro-alimentary companies which have decided to share this information.
  • Research projects related to animal feeding, as the project "Characterization, Cartography and Evaluation of Spanish Pastures" carried out by SEEP.
  • Bibliography.

HOW IS POSSIBLE TO ACCESS TO THIS INFORMATION?

USER TYPES:

  • FREE: Any person who consults the information unprotected available in this web page. By customized consultations it is possible to know the number of data and the average, minimum, maximum and standard deviation values of each one of the analyzed parameters in the selected samples, as well as the histograms of each parameter. If the user is interested in some additional information he must ask SIA for it.
  • ASSOCIATED: People from organizations (Laboratories, Departments or any other Organisms) collaborating in SIA development and/or sending it the information they generate on animal feeds for their management in one of the common databases. In addition to the information available for free users, if they desire, they can use CALIFA software for the information management in the own laboratory. Besides, they can have base information which produces the statistics, only for research use, asking SIA for it. They must indicate the data origin and send a copy of the publication to SIA. On the other hand, SIA can certify the associated laboratories its participation and the contributed information.

COMMITMENT IN THE USE OF THE INFORMATION:

If you use the information of this Web page, you must mention the source (write SIA, the web page and the database used) and the date of consultation.
