Los octágonos medievales y las oraciones disparatae / Medieval Octagons and the Disparatae Sentences

Abstract

En el presente estudio describo y analizo los octágonos medievales de oposición y equivalencia. Uno de ellos, el octágono para predicados cuantificados, es el más sencillo y ofrece la pauta para los otros dos, el octágono para predicado con cualificación modal y el octágono para oraciones con genitivo y nominativo cuantificados. Así, el primero es el analogum princeps para los otros dos, cuya estructura es más compleja. Luego describimos un cuadrado interno dentro del octágono, el cuadrado de las llamadas oraciones disparatae, que no obedecen ninguna relación lógica del cuadrado tradicional aristotélico.

In this paper the medieval octagons of opposition and equivalence are described and analized. One of them, the octagon for quantified predicates, is the simplest one and offers the pattern for the other two, the octagon for predicate with modal qualification and the octagon for quantified genitive and nominative sentences. Thus, the first is the princeps analogum for the other two, whose structure is more complex. Then we describe an internal square inside the octagon, the square of the so-called disparatae sentences, which obey no law from the traditional Aristotelian square.
