Presentation
The Higher Technical School of Agricultural Engineering was founded in October 1968 to provide academic instruction in Agricultural Engineering and its various specialisations. By Decree of 22 May 1989, the School was authorized to provide instruction in Forestry Engineering as well. At that time the name was changed to the School of Agricultural and Forestry Engineering (ETSIAM). In the 1999-2000 academic year, the School introduced a Degree in Oenology in conjunction with the University of Cadiz.
The building where the ETSIAM was originally located is of a terraced design with a cylindrical central tower to house various departments with their laboratories and lecture halls. In 1987 the original building was enlarged with the construction of an annex to house the Department of Agronomy and two large lecture halls.
In 2005, the ETSIAM moved to Rabanales Campus
Internships
In order to complement the theoretical and practical training students receive in the classroom and laboratories, the ETSIAM offers the opportunity to conduct a summer internship in enterprises related to the field of agriculture and forestry. Examples of these programmes include agreements reached with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Ministry of the Environment and public enterprises such as Dapo or Egmasa. Internships are preferably conducted during the months of July, August and September for a period of one month.
Students who have completed their programme of instruction but have not yet done their undergraduate degree thesis or project may carry out an internship during the academic year as long as the internship is related to their thesis or project. Free-elective credits are awarded for internships. Students who choose to do an internship will be assigned a Tutor by the ETSIAM according to their field of study and another tutor from the company or institution with whom they will maintain close contact throughout the duration of the internship. When the internship has concluded, students must present an “INTERNSHIP REPORT” which includes the following: Student‘s name, Introduction, Background, Objectives, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusions.
International Relations
- The ETSIAM is actively committed to student and teacher mobility in a variety of spheres including the Socrates-Erasmus programmes developed within the educational policy guidelines for European Union youth. The ETSIAM has 53 Bilateral Agreements with universities in the field of Agriculture and Forestry. A wide range of centres and courses are available to ETSIAM students wishing to study abroad. Credit recognition tables, which are updated on a yearly basis, are available for all of the courses taken abroad.
- The Interuniversity Academic Mobility Programme known as PIMA is available to students interested in studying in Latin America. This programme arranges Spanish and foreign student mobility within a network of universities between three Latin-American countries and the ETSIAM at the University of Cordoba. ETSIAM students may take part in a mobility programme within Spain for a period of one year through the Exchange System between Spanish University Centres (SICUE).
- Specific initiatives have also been created through bilateral agreements with ETSIAM teaching faculty.
