Eva Contreras Arribas

PhD Forest Engineer Researcher

University of Córdoba
Andalusian Institute for Earth System Research

Biography

I am PhD Forestry Engineer, with more than 10 years of experience in hydrological modeling, environmental monitoring, water quality assessment, decision support systems and hydrological and climate services.

I studied Forestry Engineering (2000-2006) and a Master's Degree in Environmental Hydraulics (2007) at the University of Cordoba. Thus, I got in touch with the DFH research group, where I was doing my PhD. In this stage of my career, I combined some works in several consultancy and research projects with specialization courses, participation in congresses and teaching tasks at the University in  Degree (Agricultural and Forestry Engineer) and Postgraduate (Master of Environmental Hydraulics) courses. In 2011  I had the opportunity to spend three months at the Marine and Environment Research Center of the
University of the Algarve (Portugal) working on hydrodynamic modeling in estuaries. In 2012 I obtained the title of Doctor with International mention, and after that I obtain a bridge contract of the XIII Own Program of Promotion of Research of the University of Cordoba. In 2013 I was hired postdoctoral in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering of the University of Florida (United States), working on the modeling of human and natural systems.
In 2014 I started working in a Spanish multinational company, leading activities focused on the hydrological services development and working closely with operational agencies and private companies. After four years working at the private company field, I returned to the DFH research group to be involved in a project in which we closely work with external and local partners for development and enhancement of capabilities of hydrological and climate services for renewable energy management forecasting. From 2018 I am also part of the company kNOWater, a technology-based company devoted to environmental monitoring, hydrological applications and customized services and products for end users.
