LIFE Programme

The LIFE Programme is the EU’s Programme for Environment and Climate Action for 2021-2027, and is one of the primary contributors to the European Green Deal, the aim of which is:

  • to support the transformation of the EU into a fair and prosperous society with a modern  resource-efficient and competitive economy, where net emissions will be zero by 2050 and economic growth will be decoupled from resource use;
  • to protect, conserve and enhance nature across the continent and safeguard the health and well-being of citizens from environmental and climate impacts.

The Environment sub-programme addresses three priority areas: environment and resource efficiency, nature and biodiversity, and environmental governance and information. The Climate Action sub-programme addresses the mitigation of climate change, adaptation to climate change, and climate change governance and information.

The area on Adaptation to Climate Change focuses on innovative practices and measures for promoting resilient communities, safeguarding natural resources, promoting the protection of ecosystems and promoting adaptation technologies for economic sectors that are vulnerable to climate change. By addressing potential threats and dangerous events such as water scarcity, extreme drought, forest fires and floods, LIFE projects provide strategic support for the implementation of the EU strategy for adaptation to climate change.

The European LIFE Innocereal EU project is part of the LIFE Programme (2022-2026), which consists of two sub-programmes:

LIFE Environment

LIFE Climate

The LIFE instrument is managed by the European Commission through the Directorate-General for Environment, the Directorate-General for Climate Action and the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME).
