Opportunity for a Ph. D. Thesis at Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon in France

We are seeking for high-quality candidates to apply for a scholarship of the French government to accomplish a Ph. D. thesis in the group of Prof. W. Dong at the Chemistry Laboratory of Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon in France. The thesis subject concerns a theoretical study of reaction dynamics of methane on some transition metal surfaces, e.g., CH4 on Ni(111), Pt(111) or Ir(111) (density-functional-theory calculations, reactive force fields, molecular dynamics simulations). The qualified candidate (i.e., with a master degree or equivalent) should have a good background in quantum mechanics, chemical physics or physical chemistry, computer programming and English speaking. French speaking can be an advantage but is not required.

The scholarship will be for 3 years (starting in September 2019 or later) with a net salary of 1400€ per month. Interested candidates should have a detailed CV, a motivation letter and two recommendation letters sent to Prof. W. Dong before February 26, 2019. There will be an interview (on site or through video) on a date to be determined later.
